Commonly Asked Questions

What is this settlement about?

Answer:

TransUnion identified customers who were enrolled in the TUCM Product and received a credit score from TransUnion during the Relevant Period and who canceled the subscription after the trial period but within two billing cycles of enrollment. Based on an agreement between TransUnion and the CFPB, those customers are being awarded damages to compensate for any harm arising from the purchase of the TUCM Product and credit scores.

How do I get more information about the settlement?

Answer:

Details regarding the agreement between TransUnion and the CFPB are in the Consent Order on this website and on the CFPB’s website at:

http://files.consumerfinance.gov/f/documents/201701_cfpb_Transunion-consent-order.pdf.

The TransUnion Redress Administrator can also provide more information about this agreement.

Who is eligible to receive a payment?

Answer:

You are an Affected Consumer and eligible to receive a payment if, from the time period of July 21, 2011 to January 3, 2017, you:

• Were enrolled in the TUCM Product, and canceled your subscription for the TUCM Product within two billing cycles of enrollment but after any trial period ended; or

• Received a credit score; and

• Have not already received a refund of fees paid.

How was my payment amount calculated?

Answer:

Provided you have not already received a refund of fees paid:

For Affected Consumers who enrolled in the TUCM Product through a free or $1 trial offer, and who canceled the subscription for the TUCM Product within two billing cycles between July 21, 2011 and January 3, 2017:

Your damages are 85% of the subscription amount that you paid plus $4.95 for the credit score;

For Affected Consumers who did not enroll through a free or $1 trial offer, but who did purchase a TUCM product with a credit score:

Your damages are $4.95 per consumer for the credit score.

I just received a check and I am not sure what it is related to. Why am I receiving this payment?

Answer:

The check relates to an agreement TransUnion entered into with the CFPB to pay damages to certain consumers enrolled in a TUCM Product subscription.

Can I cash my check immediately?

Answer:

Yes, you may cash or deposit your check right away. Checks must be cashed or deposited before the void date on the check.

Please note: If you have requested a check be reissued to you, the original check will be voided and it can no longer be cashed or deposited. Voided checks will be returned and your bank may charge service fees. When you receive the reissued check, you can cash or deposit the reissued check before the void date on the check.

How long will the check be valid?

Answer:

Checks will be valid and can be cashed or deposited before the void date on the check. If you try to cash or deposit your check after the void date on the check, it will be returned and your bank may charge you service fees. These service fees will not be reimbursed.

My check is expired/I lost my check. Can I request a new check be issued?

Answer:

If your check is expired or has been lost, you may contact us to request a reissued check. You will be asked to verify your information in order to process the request. The deadline to request a reissued check is March 4, 2020.

Please contact us with your request by calling the toll-free information line at 1-888-568-7645 to speak with a live customer service representative Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Central time.
